Who we've met along the way

Ravenscliffe High School near Halifax beat stiff competition to win the public vote last year. At Ravenscliffe, all the students have moderate to profound learning difficulties – however notwithstanding these challenges, they demonstrated how it is posible for us all to reduce our environmental impact.

Winners from the 1st and 2nd Future Friendly Awards include:

  • Wandsworth local mum of two, Joanna Pearce, whose project, NappyValley, was an online marketplace for parents to recycle their used baby products. By uniting local buyers and sellers in her community, transport of the items is also minimised.

  • The Derbyshire community group, Sustainable Youlgrave whose project’s aim was to reduce the village’s carbon footprint and inspire the community to initiate a long-term project looking at sustainable options for energy conservation and energy

  • The St Endellion Climate Friendly Parish in Cornwall who encourage visitors and residents to use local bus services, has worked with homeowners to install solar heating systems and calculated the village’s carbon footprint in conjunction with the University of Cornwall.

  • Dundee local Doug McLaren from Broughty Ferry whose project’s aim was to encourage recycling on a large-scale effort by receiving, sorting and re-selling unwanted items.
