Who's involved with Future Friendly?

  • Why is Ariel Future Friendly...

Ariel has encouraged the nation to wash their clothes at 30°C since 2006, and now is able to clean brilliantly even at cold water settings with new award-winning Ariel Excel Gel. Designed for low temperature washing and allowing you to save energy, Ariel Excel Gel helps everyone to make savings on their energy bills as well as reduce their carbon footprint, plus its super-compact form uses between 14-45% less packaging and saves 30-40% of energy and 40-50% of water in its manufacturing process compared with regular compact liquid.

Across laundry life cycle, up to 70% of energy consumption happens during the product’s use, heating up the water in the washing machine. Therefore, one way to do our bit for the planet can be as quick and easy as turning down the programme temperature dial. Working together, washing at 30°C can make a big difference.

Ariel Excel Gel is also celebrating the fact that it has been heralded by Which? as ‘the best laundry detergent they’ve ever tested’ – making it the ultimate in clean! The product scored better than any of the 85 other detergents tested at 40 degrees over the previous two years – despite being tested at 30°C.

  • Why is Flash Future Friendly...

Flash is encouraging consumers to clean using Flash ‘One For All’ Cleaner in cold water. Cleaning floors using hot water is the norm in the UK, with 95% of UK consumers still doing so. By turning off the hot tap and using only cold water, consumers are able to save energy and still get brilliant cleaning.

Reducing the washing temperature by just using the cold tap, will represent a saving of over 25kWh/year per household, or in other words, if everybody in UK would use cold tap water to wash their floors enough energy would be save to heat 34,000 homes for a year, or the volume of CO2 saved annually could fill the Royal Albert Hall over 900 times, or fill over 33,000 hot air balloons.

  • Why is Lenor Future Friendly...

Switching to a concentrate, like Lenor concentrate, means that the product you’re buying comes in smaller bottles. In fact, switching to Lenor concentrate adds up to using 70% less packaging (plastic and cardboard) in comparison with the dilute version. Not only that, but because you don’t need to use as much, it’s also up to 25% cheaper per wash when compared to the regular format... and the benefits of switching to concentrate don’t end there.

The smaller packaging also has environmental benefits as the bottles take less space in transportation, so there are less lorry loads on the road. If everyone in the UK switched to a fabric softener like Lenor concentrate, it would be the same as needing 14,000 less lorry-loads each year. The EST has calculated that this switch could save up to 4,000 tonnes of CO2 – equivalent to the annual emissions of about 1,300 cars!

  • Why is Fairy Liquid Future Friendly...

Fairy calls on everyone to... Think at the Sink!

Sometimes using a little can go a very long way. Fairy liquid is so concentrated that it lasts longer, helping you to do your bit for a more sustainable future without compromising on the cleaning power expected from Fairy. As the longest lasting washing-up liquid on the market, Fairy's concentrated formula means that you will use less liquid and, as a result, fewer bottles. In fact, if everyone in the UK switched to Fairy, we'd get through over 30 million fewer bottles each year. And because Fairy Liquid lasts longer you also get great value for money.

  • Why is the Energy Saving Trust Future Friendly...

The Energy Saving Trust is one of the UK’s leading organisations set up to mitigate the damaging effects of climate change. They aim to cut carbon emissions – a contributor to climate change – by promoting the sustainable and efficient use of energy, water conservation and waste reduction in the home.

Through a network of 21 advice centres across the UK, it provides free, tailored and impartial advice to everyone across the UK on saving energy, water, waste, domestic renewables and greener transport. The Energy Saving Trust also works with retailers, builders and industry to make sure that energy efficient products are available for people to choose as well as advising government on policies that are needed to cut greenhouses gases.

One of the biggest challenges is to ‘normalise’ energy saving behaviour, so people just do it as a matter of course. The Energy Saving Trust is the independent organisation providing advice for all householders in the UK to help reduce their resources use and is proud to support Future Friendly...
